El polaco Patyk Stoz (Voster ATS) se ha impuesto en la primera etapa del Tour de Rumanía, siendo el más veloz de un esprint pasado por agua. Con este suma ya tres triunfos profesionales, tras loslogrados en Almaty y en Bosnia. Además, es su quina victoria de la temporada, tras imponerse en hasta tres etapas del calendario polaco 2.2. Lucas Carstensen (Bike Aid) y Dusan Rajovic (selección de Serbia) completaron el podio de la jornada. El local Eduard Grosu, uno de los principales favoritos, terminó cuarto.
Sin embargo, el nuevo líder de la carrera es Daniel Crista, que acabó segundo en el prólogo y hoy ha formado parte de la escapada. El ciclista de la selección rumana fue el último en ser atrapado por el pelotón en el desenlace de la jornada, tras 190 kilómetros en fuga donde pudo capturar nueve segundos de bonificación que le colocan al frente de la general. Mañana llegará la etapa reina de la carrera, con el primero de los finales en alto, en la estación de esquí de Paltinis, en Transilvania.
