Corbin Strong se impone en la jornada inaugural del Tour de Valonia. Este sábado fue un auténtico festival para los aficionados al ciclismo. Mientras se disputaba la esperada penúltima etapa del Tour de Francia masculino y daba inicio el Tour de France femenino, la 46ª edición de la ronda belga también vivió su jornada inaugural, con un trazado exigente en torno a la localidad de Nassogne.
Con 182 kilómetros de recorrido y un perfil accidentado ideal para ciclistas explosivos, la etapa ofreció una fuga de cinco unidades formada por De Moyer, Decottignies, Milesi, Robeet y Van Rooy, que se fue desmembrando en el último tercio de carrera hasta que Ludovic Robeet de Cofidis fue cazado a falta de 2 kilómetros para la meta, gracias a la encomiable tarde Omar Fraile tirando de los Ineos.
En un final perfecto para «puncheurs», el triunfo fue para el neozelandés Corbin Strong (Israel), que se impuso al esprint tras un duro día. El corredor oceánico demostró su potencia en la llegada, superando al noruego Rasmus Tiller (Uno-X) y al danés Andreas Foldager (Jayco), quienes completaron el podio del día. Con esta victoria, Strong se viste como primer líder de la ronda valona, y logra su primer parcial de la temporada; sumando el décimo séptimo triunfo de su equipo este año.
