Olav Kooij, de 20 años, sigue creciendo y estrenó su temporada en la 2ª etapa del Circuito Sarthe (2.1) superando al sprint, su especialidad, al líder y ganador en la víspera, el danés Mads Pedersen, y al local Lorrenzo Manzin.
Mattia Bais (Drone Hopper), Thibault Guernalec (Arkea), Antoine Berlin (Nice Metropole), Mael Guegan (U Nantes Atlantique), Marco Tizza (Bingoal) y Pierre Rolland (B&B) fueron los grandes protagonistas de la jornada escapándose casi de salida, pero siempre controlados por el pelotón y el Trek del líder. Una diferencia de 4:35 fue la máxima que disfrutaron.
Mientras, a falta de 40 kilómetros, se produjo el abandono de Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies) que sigue sn poder superar sus problemas físicos acompañados de las secuelas de varios contagios de coronavirus en los últimos meses. Una negativa noticia para el campeón de Esolovaquia y su equipo francés que ha invertido una buena suma de euros en su fichaje, de momento fallido.
La fuga feneció a 14 kilómetros dentro del circuito final sin que se produjeran ataques de enjundia. El esprint estaba servido y el duelo entre Kooij y Pedersen quedó resuelto para el joven neerlandés del Jumbo que ya acumula 7 victorias desde su debut profesional en 2020 en el conjunto de desarrollo del grupo que dirige Richard Plugge.
