Ethan Hayter recuperó el maillot naranja de líder del Tour de Holanda tras volver a imponerse en una contrarreloj individual. El británico ganó hace dos días el prólogo en La Haya y este jueves ha vuelto a triunfar en la crono de 15 kilómetros en Etten-Leur. Con un tiempo de 16 minutos y 56 segundos venció al anterior líder y su mayor rival de cara a lo que resta de carrera, Jakob Söderqvist, que se quedó a tres segundos de la victoria.

Esta pelea contra el crono sí permitió abrir mayores diferencias en la general y apenas una veintena de corredores terminaron a menos de un minuto del ganador. Christophe Laporte fue tercero a 15 segundos, solo un segundo mejor que Alec Segaert y dos en comparación con Daan Hoole. Hayter aventaja ahora en solo dos segundos a Söderqvist, por lo que las bonificaciones de próximos días cobrarán un papel aún más importante.

Ethan Hayter (Soudal): «La lluvia matinal dificultó las cosas, ya que las carreteras aún estaban húmedas y había algunas hojas, lo que hacía difícil calcular bien, pero pude hacer una contrarreloj sólida de principio a fin y estoy contento de haber podido conseguir otra victoria para el equipo. Es la cuarta vez en mi carrera que gano dos etapas en una carrera y me siento muy bien, sobre todo porque confirma todo el esfuerzo que he dedicado este año. Los próximos días hay algunas subidas exigentes, pero quiero disfrutar de volver a estar en cabeza de la clasificación general y ya veremos qué podemos hacer en la clasificación general. El equipo está teniendo una fantástica recta final de temporada, ganando aquí y también en China, así que podemos estar orgullosos. Es increíble conseguir seis victorias esta semana y esperamos no parar aquí, ya que debería haber un par de oportunidades más».

Jakob Söderqvist (Lidl): «Al principio, me decepcionó un poco perder contra Ethan otra vez por un pequeño margen, pero es un buen corredor y está en buena forma, así que no puedo estar decepcionado mucho tiempo. Las próximas etapas serán aún más interesantes que las contrarreloj; sé que puedo competir en ellas, pero para mí es más divertido y un mayor reto intentar demostrar mi valía en terrenos diferentes, y con el equipo bien preparado tengo muchas ganas de afrontarlas. Ahora que Ethan lidera, no puedo fijarme demasiado en los demás, es él a quien están buscando, y estoy concentrado en desafiarlo por el liderato. Una vez que conoces tus propios límites, empieza a ser bastante aburrido, así que solo quiero descubrirlos; es muy difícil decir cuáles son mis límites. No llevo mucho tiempo en este deporte y siempre he practicado ciclismo de montaña. Las contrarreloj siempre me irán bien y seguiremos trabajando en ello durante el resto de mi carrera. El tiempo dirá si me centraré más en las clásicas explosivas o en las carreras por etapas en el futuro».
