Laurence Pithie ganó la tercera etapa del Tour de Valonia . El neozelandés fue el más rápido de un reducido grupo de corredores que se formó tras una caída masiva en los últimos dos kilómetros.
Tras dos jornadas decididas al esprint, la tercera etapa también apuntaba a los velocistas. El recorrido era ondulado y la llegada picaba hacia arriba, aunque sin grandes ascensiones finales. En la fuga inicial rodaron seis corredores: Senne Thonnon, Jarno Bellens, Jonah Killy, George Wood, el español Alvaro Sagrado y el campeón italiano Filippo Conca . Su ventaja máxima superó los dos minutos, aunque el equipo del líder Ben Oliver controló la carrera. En el tramo decisivo Netcompany y NSN aceleraron para romper el pelotón. A 11 kilómetros fueron neutralizados los fugados.
Una caída masiva en los dos últimos kilómetros redujo drásticamente el grupo delantero. Solo unos diez corredores pudieron disputar la victoria. Entre ellos estaban Danny van Poppel, Jordi Meeus y Laurence Pithie, que lanzó un sprint perfecto para imponerse por delante de Kim Heiduk y Krists Neilands . Red Bull celebró su segundo parcial en la ronda belga que sirve para despedir la primavera.
