4ª Tour Suiza: Viviani gana y abandona Thomas

Elia Viviani (Deceunick) se tomó su particular “vendetta” tras su derrota la víspera con el líder Peter Sagan llevándose la cuarta etapa del Tour de Suiza al sprint en la ciudad de Arlesheim. Una jornada en la que el otro protagonismo recae en el galés Geraint Thomas que hubo de abandonar en la parte final tras una caída con posible rotura de clavícula. Otro varapalo para el Ineos británico antes del Tour de Francia tras el grave accidente de su jefe de filas, Chris Froome.

Simon Geschke (CCC), Gian Friesecke (Suiza), Robin Carpenter (Rally) y Taco van der Hoorn (Jumbo) fueron en esta ocasión los escapados de la jornada en otro día fijado pra los más rápidos. Hasta cuatro minutos tuvieron de ventaja máxima lo que no les dio ninguna opción de éxito. Otro día inicialmente tranquilo hasta que a 29 kilómetros del final se produjo un accidente que puede marcar la temporada y el próximo Tour de Francia con la caída -junto a Zeits (Astana)- y posterior retirada del llamado a portar el dorsal 1 en Bruselas.

Mientras la etapa siguió su curso comandada por el Bora y en el ascenso al Eichenberg Gian Friesecke trató de lucirse en casa con el maillot de su país, pero a 11 kilómetros del final vio como la ley del pelotón cayó sobre él. Deceuninck no falló y primero Yves Lampaert y segundo Michael Morkov dejaron en inmejorable a un Elia Viviani que no perdonó luciendo su maillot tricolor italiano. Michael Matthews acabó segundo remontando a un Peter Sagan que saldrá este miércoles de amarillo con Jonathan Castroviejo y Luis León Sánchez entre los diez mejores.
