8ª Tour Porvenir: Powless, la etapa, y Gaudu, la general

El corredor estadounidense Neilson Powless (Estados Unidos) se ha llevado la última etapa del Tour del Porvenir, de sólo 72 kilómetros entre Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne y Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves, y tras la que el francés David Gaudu (Francia) subió al primer escalón del podio final.

Los diversos movimientos en las rampas del primera categoría La Toussuire-Les Sybelles dejaron a los colombianos Daniel Martínez y Egan Bernal y al estadounidense Powless en cabeza de carrera. Por detrás, se organizó un grupo perseguidor conformado por los rusos Nych, Cherkasov y Sivakov, el suizo Kilian Frankiny, el vasco Alex Aranburu y el danés Niklas EG, que nada pudo hacer ante el trío cabecero que llegó a acumular hasta 3-20 de ventaja.

Ya al inicio de la subida final al Col de la Croix-de-Fer, la diferencia apenas sobrepasaba el minuto. Cayeron los colombianos, pero Powless se mantuvo en cabeza.

Por detrás, el italiano Edward Ravasi probaba al líder David Gaudu, quien primero se apoyó en su gran equipo y luego respondió en primera persona a las aceleraciones del ‘stagiaire’ del Lampre-Mérida, la de Adrien Costa o los cambios de ritmo de los australianos Hamilton y Storer.

Finalmente el galo de 19 años entró 3° a 15s del vencedor Powless, tomando el relevo del español Marc Soler.

Aranburu era noveno, a 1:22, y Cristian Rodríguez, decimocuarto, a 2:10. De esta forma, Rodríguez acababa en la décima posición de la general final, a 8:34 de Gaudu, mientras que Aranburu finalizaba vigésimocuarto, a 29:34.

El andaluz, pese a haber corrido ya un Giro de Italia, se mostraba muy contento, “porque había preparado muy bien esta carrera con ese objetivo de estar entre los mejores. Lo que pasa es que los capos iban muy rápidos. He sufrido muchísimo en el último puerto, pero he podido terminar en ese top ten que es un gran resultado, siendo realistas, ya que he dado todo lo que tenía y más. Comparado con el año pasado, superdiferente, por mi parte, ya que el año pasado iba atrás y este año me he visto delante, y si se abría gas podía seguir adelante, ver la carrera… y el año pasado no vi nada”.
