6ª Tour of Utah: Sepp Kuss vencedor absoluto

Con una espectacular exhibición en el Empire Pass de la sexta etapa el norteamericano de 23 años Sepp Kuss (Lotto Jumbo), del que podremos seguir sus pasos en los próxima Vuelta a España, se proclamó como el vencedor de la edición 2018 del Tour de Utah, logrando su segundo parcial consecutivo y su tercero global en un claro dominio de la prueba en el queda sumó el liderato por la montaña. Escoltando en el podio por la clasificación general final se situaron segundo el belga Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) a 2.09  y tercero Jack Haig (Michelton-Scott) con 2.21 de perdida.

Apenas iniciada la etapa se lanzaron los primeros ataques logrando tomar diferencias el dúo conformado por Jasper Phillipssen (Hagens Bermans Axeons) y Alan Marangoni (Nipo), que fueron posteriormente neutralizados por una grupeta, reintegrándolos nuevamente al pelotón que tendría a los del conjunto neerlandés (Lotto Jumbo) manteniendo un ritmo alto, lo que marcó una constante durante los kilómetros iniciales

Fue hasta el kilómetro 32 cuando se dio la fuga del día integrada por 15 corredores: Daniel Jaramillo (UHC), Evan Huffman (Rally Cycling), Ulises Castillo (Jelly Belly)Sam Bewley (Mitchelton) y Robert Powers (Mitchelton-Scott).

Después de varios ataques y contraataques en busca de la victoria de etapa, a los 11 kilómetros del punto más alto del Empire Pass el líder consumó un definitivo ataque desde el pelotón al que solo pudieron seguir Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott) y John Carthy (EF-Drapac) por poco tiempo. Sepp Kuus coronó para buscar su segunda de etapa consecutiva, la tercera en la prueba, para después en el repecho final alzar los brazos en solitario. Brent Bookwalter (BMC) ocupó la segunda plaza y a Haig, tercero, ambos a 8″ del líder definitivo de la clasificación general.
